Bird Watching and More...
Enjoy a memorable experience
Guided tour over 3-4 hours along with the environmental scientistDimitris Papandropoulos.
The Strofilia forest and lagoons area is a place of rest or stay for a great number of birds. This enables guests to enjoy observing them and recording their rich diversity.
The spring and autumn months during which bird migration is taking place, present a particularly great interest and intense activity. At that time, our hotel accommodates groups from across Europe and the world, as our region proudly holds its place in the European birdwatching map.
Some of the species are:
Short-toed eagle, Marsh harrier, Eagle-owl, Dalmatian pelican, Greater flamingo, Glossy ibis, Purple heron, Ferruginous duck, Black-winged stilt, Collared pratincole, Great spotted cuckoo, Bee-eater, Rock nuthatch etc.
The terrestrial fauna also presents a great interest, with the various reptiles and mammals that inhabit the region. Among the former, the Hermann’s tortoise and the Marginated tortoise are particularly abundant in the Strofilia forest and people from all over Europe gather here to observe them.
The Nose-horned vipers, Four-lined snakes, Water snakes and Legless lizards also enrich the long list of reptiles that can be found in the area.
As for mammals, being elusive by nature they offer little chances for observation. Among those present in our region two rare species invite you to seek them out: the Otter and the Jackal.
With all this interesting information, we invite you to explore this unspoilt corner of Greece and promise you an unforgettable experience.
The hotel can arrange a 3hr and 4hr forest tour for you to enjoy a unique contact with nature.
"Special thanks to our friends Heidi Jost and Urs Jost who offered to us many of these beautiful photos of this unique landscape"
